Spanish Comedy at the Madlenianum

Spanish aristocrat Iñigo Ramírez de Haro, by profession a playwright, philologist, diplomat, philosopher, and aerospace engineer, has written a comedy provocatively titled Your Secret Weapon Against Rebellious Cellulite, which will be the part of the dramatic repertoire of the Madlenianum from 15th May under the direction of Tijana Vasic. The author himself has stated that he particularly likes this play, as beneath its surface of silliness and entertainment lie deep truths about our reality that intimately touch and wound us.

Iñigo Ramírez de Haro also served as a diplomat in Belgrade, for which he has the highest regard, noting many similarities between Spanish and Serbian mentalities. As a playwright, he is a proponent of freedom of expression and champions disobedience, independence, and rebellion. The young director Tijana Vasic received the writer's full encouragement to stage his comedy with complete artistic freedom and by taking the initiative to launch this project, she opened the doors of Mrs. Madlena Zepter's theatre, which consistently strives not only for noble ideas but also for innovative forms.

In this sharp-witted comedy that critiques the frantic pace of modern life and the habit of buying and selling everything, the team of authors, along with Tijana Vasic includes Mina Miladinovic, a set and costume designer, Julija Castellucc, a composer and Rade Stamenkovic, a lighting designer. A special contribution to the play came from Dr. Bojana Kovacevic Petrovic, who, together with her students, translated the play from Spanish into Serbian.

Your Secret Weapon Against Rebellious Cellulite is in the hands of a brilliant cast consisting of Paulina Manov, Goran Jevtic, Milan Kovacevic and Aleksandar Vuckovic. Inspired and fully engaged in bringing this unique theatrical work to life in the intimate space of the Madlenianum’s Small Stage, they offer the audience an opportunity to reflect on universally relatable themes and to confirm that “There is nothing more comedic than tragic truth.”

In addition to the premiere on 15th May, audiences of the Madlenianum will be able to enjoy this new comedy on 26th May 26 and 2nd June.
