THE GENTLEMAN IN BOOTS OF SMOKE

The first drama premiere at the Opera and Theatre Madlenianum was on 17 November, on the 65th birthday of Tihomir Stanic. On that day, he celebrated his birthday by performing the title role on the Large Stage in the work of the great writer Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky, in the play THE GENTLEMAN IN BOOTS OF SMOKE. The Gentleman in Boots of Smoke is actually Foma Fomich, the hero of the novella “The Village of Stepanchikovo and Its Inhabitants”, which served as the starting point for Marko Misiraca in creating the dramatic text. Misiraca is the author of the dramatization, as well as the director of the play with which Tihomir Stanic marked his life jubilee.

THE GENTLEMAN IN BOOTS OF SMOKE is a work which, through an extremely mysterious character, through Foma Fomich as portrayed by Tihomir Stanic, opens up the secrets of the other figures from the story of the brilliant Dostoevsky. The audience encountered an exciting romantic intrigue presented through the genre of comedy. A Russian landowning family and its household offered the audience not only entertainment, but also a life lesson, while raising many questions that are highly relevant to contemporary man, relating to authority, truthfulness, and self-interest...

It was an honour for us that Svetlana Bojkovic appeared at Madlenianum for the first time, and in a piece based on such significant world literature. Madlenianum also welcomed for the first time on its stage the leading actor of the Sombor Theatre, Saša Torlakovic, as well as actors Vladan Gajovic and the young Milan Nikitovic. The Madlenianum audience was also able to enjoy the performances of their long-familiar artists Jovana Balasevic, Tamara Aleksic, Nadja Sekulic, and Branislav Zeremski. A special charm was brought by two young performers on stage: Tihomir Stanic’s student Natalija Spasova and seven-year-old Dusan Andjelkovic.

Director and dramatizer Marko Misiraca, in addition to the excellent actors, gathered a first-class creative team who he created the play with. The team includes the set designer Vladimir Pavlovic, the costume designer Tatjana Radisic, the composer Branislav Pipovic, stage speech author Dijana Marojevic and stage movement creator Andjelko Beros.
