Why you should see The Nutcracker at the Opera and Theatre Madlenianum, bringing the magic of the upcoming holidays.
The beloved ballet The Nutcracker, which awakens nostalgia and takes us back to childhood, will be performed on four occasions on the Large Stage of the Opera and Theatre Madlenianum on 14 and 20 December, with two performances each day at 17h and 20h.
Set to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with a libretto adapted by Georg Draushnik, the ballet is choreographed by Aleksandar Ilic and performed by students of the Institute for Artistic Dance and e the Young Ballet Company. The title roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Prince will be performed by Gala Jovanovic, soloist of the Vienna State Opera and Aleksandr Polupanov, soloist of the National Theatre in Belgrade. The role of the magician Drosselmeyer will be performed by Ognjen Vucinic.
“There is no doubt that this is one of Tchaikovsky’s most beautiful scores, celebrating music in every segment, but it is also one of the most demanding jewels of classical ballet, particularly the Pas de deux of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Prince in the second act. In our adaptation of the ballet, all fundamental elements of the original work have been preserved and without compromising the dramaturgy of the performance” notes the choreographer Ilic.
With a wish to make the holiday magic accessible to everyone, the Madlenianum has given audiences the opportunity to enjoy the enchanting dance of the snowflakes in four performances and to follow the mysterious magician Drosselmeyer on a journey to the Land of Sweets, where we can briefly surrender to the wonders of the story.
The set design for the play is done by Georg Draushnik, the choreography assistant is Milica Bezmarevic, music adaptation is by Georg Draushnik and the lighting designer is Vladimir Krunic.
The performance runs 1 hour and 30 minutes, with a 15-minute intermission between the first and second act.
