The jubilee 20th Early Music Festival in Belgrade approaches its climax and on Friday, 14 November at 19h, at the Opera and Theatre Madlenianum, the baroque masterpiece Alcina by George Frideric Handel will be performed by the ensemble New Trinity Baroque together with participants of the XXIV Belgrade Baroque Academy.

Under the artistic leadership and baton of Predrag Gosta, the audience will experience one of the most beautiful works of baroque opera - a story of the power of love and magic, about Alcina, a sorceress who turns her lovers into stone and animals, until she herself falls victim to her own spells.

This semi-concert, semi-staged performance will be the crown of the weeks-long Festival program, which has brought together artists from Serbia, Italy, the United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, the USA, China and many other countries. At the same time, the concert represents the final event of the XXIV Belgrade Baroque Academy, an educational and artistic project that each year gathers young singers from Europe, America, and Asia.

The mentors of this year’s Academy are Sonia Prina (Italy), Radoslava Vorgic, Sreten Manojlovic, Sandro Rossi (Italy/Belgium), Meila Tomé, Nevena Majdevac, Bojana Dimkovic and Predrag Gosta. After the Belgrade performance at Madlenianum, Alcina will also be performed on 15 November at the Novi Sad Synagogue.

The Festival is realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade, the New Belgrade Opera, the Makris Foundation (USA), the Opera and Theatre Madlenianum, the Belgrade Archdiocese, the Belgrade Cultural Centre and other partners.
