ANDREJ HING
BURLESQUE ON THE GREEK
New drama project of Madlenianum in the space of Bel Etage
As a house amalgamating opera, ballet and drama under its roof, Madlenianum continues to stage dramas that have as their themes biographies of artists, or a relation toward other arts. After the QUARTET, the great drama on opera by the winner of Academy award, Ronald Harwood, the attractive space of Bel Etage will be the venue of continued series of dramas on painters that started with the drama by Sanja Domazet, FRIDA KAHLO.
The 9th March 2007 is scheduled as the date of the premiere of the play by Andrej Hing, BURLESQUE ON THE GREEK, the drama that describes in an intriguing way the life of one of the greatest painters, unsurpassed colorist, El Greco. Andrej Hing is a Slovene author, who had a great success on television with this drama by the end of sixties, when Ljuba Tadic performed the character of El Greco. The present production of Madlenianum does not fall behind the production of thirty-five years ago. Nebojsa Dugalic, one of the most attractive among younger actors, will play the character of El Greco, while Elizabeta Djoreska, Jelica Vucinic, Andjelika Simic, Ivan Tomic and Dušan Muric will play other roles.
The director of the performance BURLESQUE ON THE GREEK is Anja Susa (1973), the director of the performances „Antony and Cleopatra“ (BELEF 2005), „The Pillowman“ (BDT), „The Little Prince “ (Theatre Duško Radovic). Anja Suša intends to stage the biography of the great El Greco in a quite new and modern way, and the attention will be focused on artistic dilemmas and a struggle with a creative crisis.
One should also say that the performance BURLESQUE ON THE GREEK is an introduction into a series of dramas on painters, which will be continued in 2008 by a drama on Michelangelo. The scenographer of this significant project of Madlenianum will be Igor Vasiljev, while the costume designer will be Maja Mirkovic, young artists who already affirmed them by their work, and who already worked for Madlenianum (PROMETHEUS BOUND).
