AFTER THE FALL

A new production by Opera & Theatre Madlenianum, based on the play by Arthur Miller, directed by Petar Jovanović.
What remains when we fall? When we are forced to confront our own choices and mistakes, the relationships we have built, and the consequences we can no longer change?
These are the questions at the heart of After the Fall, one of the major works of American playwright Arthur Miller, which comes to the stage of Opera & Theatre Madlenianum in a new production directed by Petar Jovanović.
Miller’s play reaches beyond the individual and the choices they make. What do we owe others, and what do we owe ourselves? Can we ever escape the past? And where does personal responsibility end and the circumstances that shape our lives begin?
At the centre of the production is a man attempting to come to terms with his own life. But memories rarely unfold in a neat, orderly narrative. Instead, they bring back events, relationships, and decisions that may have been easier to leave behind than to face again.
In Petar Jovanović’s direction, Miller’s text becomes a space for confronting what remains when life’s defining choices have been made, when love has faded or changed, and when conflict and defeat have left their mark.
After the Fall is more than a drama about the past. It is about the moment when we must decide how to live with it.

After the Fall poses a question with no easy answer: What remains of us after the fall?
The answer lies not beyond the theatre, but in the encounter with Miller’s characters—in their choices, their memories, and what they are willing to acknowledge, both to themselves and to others.
