Nothing is eternal. People make mistakes. And yet, a breakup is the hardest challenge when we first burn with love and all we want is for that love to be eternal. But can we love forever as intensely as we did in the beginning?

 “Così fan tutte,” directed by Miklós Sinetar, deals with the rich emotions stirred by love in youthful ardour. At times, it touches the edges of human relationships, where those in love can easily lose themselves while searching for intense emotions. Mozart’s 1790 opera would not be so significant today had he not wrestled with this always relevant theme. Thus, two young couples, who believe they have already discovered the essence of true love, encounter their two experienced counterparts in Don Alfonso and Despina. An experiment begins in which the men put the fidelity of their partners to the test by playing a game of disguise. What follows is disappointment and the potentially painful realization that only freedom and the longing for union are certain. Disappointment and rejection are part of the game, because ideal love does not exist.

This legendary 2002 production once placed the Opera & Theatre Madlenianum at the very top of opera houses in the region. After about twenty years since its last performance, with the premiere revival of this masterpiece, now in a new guise, we witness the long tradition of our opera house, where the careers of many of our eminent artists began.
