The first premiere in Madlenianum Opera and Theatre in 2010/2011 theatre season, will be the performance INDIAN SUMMER, an adaptation of the brilliant drama A Month in the Country by I.S. Turgenev, which is performed all over the world.

INDIAN SUMMER will be played as a romantic comedy that is, in addition to melodrama, the most popular genre with the audience. A typical Russian romantic story in which in rich landowner Arcadi Isaiev’s summer cottage, in addition to his wife Nataly (Isidora Minic), mother Anne (Radmila Zivkovic), his wife’s two lovers (Nebojsa Dugalic and Radovan Vujovic), acquaintances and subjects, love, in all its aspects, can be encountered. Turgenev raises a question of love, art, religion. Briefly of everything that vitally determines existence of his characters, but also the existence of those watching them from the darkened auditorium.

In INDIAN SUMMER, ache and tears counterpoint pleasure and laughter. This is the first drama of the Russian Theatre which offers a psychological insight into its characters and just that quality attracted Stanislavski (he played the role of Rakitin which is played by Nebojša Dugalic  in our performance). After this text, Stanislavski and MHAT created the performance which entered the history of the world theatre. Except for Stanislavski, the play was inspiring for A. P. Chekhov under whose influence, Chekhov’s antological dramas sprang up (Gull, Three Sisters  Cherry Orchard). The famous performance in JDP (Yugoslav Drama Theatre) with Nevenka Urbanova and Mata Milosevic was performed after this play.

Direction and adaptation of this performance is autographed by Egon Savin. For his first associates, he chose Vesna Strbac, a set designer and Lana Cvijanovic, a costume designer.
