WHEN THE WORDS ARE SUPERFLUOUS
The year 2008 is not an ordinary year, not only because there is 29th February in the calendar, but also because it was declared the Year of Intercultural Dialogue in Europe. The Opera and Theatre Madlenianum is meeting this year with the play Painted in White Frost, as we did marking the 400thopera anniversary and jubilees of Nikola Tesla, Mozart and Frida Kahlo. And what is better way to celebrate the year of intercultural dialogue, but to create a joint project with Slovak non-verbal theater "Bread and Circuses", which is already known to the BITEF audience as one of the most distinctive and artistically the most powerful artistic groups in our country?
Now to the stage of Madlenianum, directly from these artists, led by Miroslav Benka, arrives a powerful saga about a painter and his oneiric phantoms, about the images that jumped from the platanus to present themselves to the audience as a theatre that does not choose words for their communication, but movement and the universal emotion that do not need any translators. Is there a better way to mark the year of intercultural dialogue than to do it by a performance that needs neither a subtitle, nor an interpreter?
