Imagine that place everyone talks about. The place into which we will change all this. That world that is a result of all our efforts throughout these years. We could call that place, that planet, Pasionaria. Beings similar to us, who have been perfectly designed to imitate us, live there. What we call life has become an artificial landscape and its inhabitants have turned into technological gadgets that have lost any kind of passion. The present in which we live makes us imagine a future in which we have simply stopped feeling. A future in which we do not even aspire to differentiate ourselves or feel that we are living our own life. The poet Leopoldo María Panero wrote: “I destroy myself to know that I am me and not all of them.” We understand that pain and passion are what differentiate us from robots or statues, and we will use those inert bodies in this piece to look at ourselves, find differences and discover whether we are still alive. “Pasionaria” questions the emotional detachment that we are moving towards. A reflection on the idea of progress that is being imposed on us. The artificial world which we are pushed towards and violently thrown into, where individualism and moral cowardice is turning the current world into a place of defenceless adults.

 

Marcos Morau (Valencia, 1982) studied choreography at the Theater Institute in Barcelona, the Dance Conservatory in Valencia and the Movement Research in New York, obtaining the highest score on the final project and the extraordinary award of the Theater Institute. His artistic skills are not limited to dance but extended into disciplines such as photography and drama, studying the Master in Theory of Drama. In 2005 he founded La Veronal, company formed by artists from the dance, film, photography and literature. The artistic team purpose lies directly on a constant search for new expressive media, for cultural references – cinema, literature, music and photography, mostly – to bet on a strong narrative language with the intention of forming global art spaces. Marcos Morau has been awarded with the National Dance Award by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 2013, and Sebastià Gasch Award, an important prize granted by the Spanish Foundation for Arts and Design. His works were presented and awarded at many national and international choreography competitions, including competitions in Hannover, Copenhagen, Madrid, Canary Islands… His performances made for La Veronal are part of the program of the most important festivals and theatres in the world, and have received numerous important awards and prizes. Morau, together with his team, is also creating for other companies of international reputation.
