PERFROMANCE OF ENSEMBLE REDA FEATURING EGYPTIAN FOLKLORE DANCES
On the occasion of celebration of the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Folklore Ensemble Reda will have performance at Opera and Theatre Madlenianum on Thursday, July 11, 2019. In a 60-minute program, they will perform traditional dances featuring the Egyptian heritage from different regions, some of them being: Luxor, Alexandria, Mediterranean Costal Area, Nubia, Upper Egypt, and the typical dance of Bedouin and the rural population.
“This is a unique opportunity to discover Arab and African folklore through the Reda Ensemble performance”, highlighted Egypt’s Ambassador to Serbia Amr Aljowaily adding that ‘the early performances of the Group in the 1960s shaped oriental choreography for many years to follow, and hence can be source of inspiration for all Serbian artists and general audiences alike interested in intercultural activities”.
Reda Ensemble was established in 1959 by professor Mahmoud Reda, who gathered students and taught choreographies based on Egyptian folklore that he studied for years, including music, verses, popular stories and dances. With the support of the Ministry of Culture of Egypt, the ensemble truly represents this ancient culture at festivals and abroad. The ensemble Reda is visiting Belgrade for the first time, and touring other cities in Serbia.
The performance is organized by Opera and Theatre Madlenianum in partnership with the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Belgrade.
